MOUNT HOPE — The Fayette County Urban Renewal Authority hopes to mirror a preservation and economic renewal project that’s saving historic buildings and bringing in small business in Elk City.
Fayette County Resource Coordinator Kelly Jo Drey explained that the Charleston project has successfully restored historic buildings in danger of becoming dilapidated, prepared them for business use and offered creative financing to make it possible for small, locally owned businesses to move in.
Mount Hope is an ideal location for a similar project, she explained. The city has an excellent comprehensive plan that includes intent to revitalize and save the historic district.
Mount Hope also has historic structures in danger of becoming dilapidated and has a great need for economic revitalization.
